Life soundtrack

I love music, and I love finding songs that fit things in my life perfectly. Enjoy my soundtrack.

Sunny Day - Sesame Street - Joe Raposo, Jon Stone & Bruce Hart
When I was a little girl, I LOVED Sesame Street, and if you think about the words to Sesame Street, they are perfect!! "Sunny Day, sweeping the clouds away

Oh I Went to the Animal Fair
- not sure who is the original artist
My dad taught me this song, and all of my kids know it, too. It's fun to sing in the car at the top of our lungs!!!

Skiddamarinky Dinky Dink - not sure who is the original artist
I learned this song when my sister was little, and then I have taught it to all of my kids, and even Ricky knows how to sing it, too!! I taught it to him when we first started dating :) And, he used to sing it to me!!

Jump - Van Halen
OK, simple and sweet, this song goes in my life soundtrack because it was played at the first dance I ever went to in middle school in California. I remember how a bunch of us were jumping off the stage every time the song said, "JUMP!"

Summer Lovin' - John Travolta and Olivia Newton John
Grease is my all-time favorite movie/musical, and this song is my favorite in the movie, although I must admit it's hard to choose one. I even directed the musical when I taught in Cashmere, and that's one of my best experiences in my life!

Closing Time - Semisonic
I have a good friend, and this is one of our favorite songs. We know that things happen for a reason.

Here I Go Again - Whitesnake
When I graduated, this was our song. I love it! Every time I hear it, I think about high school, which for me rocked! I had many good times, and I loved the big hair music (still do).

Dear Mama - Tupac
I gave Cody Tupac's book of poems for graduating from middle school, and it is one of his favorite books, and he told me that he thinks of me whenever he hears this song.

If I Could Make A Living
- Clay Walker
Jordan LOVED all of Clay Walker's music when he was little. We even took him to a Clay Walker concert, and we were in the third row, and Clay pointed right at Jordan. Jordie even sang the song at the talent show when he was in Kindergarten!!!! Too cute, and he still loves Clay's music.

Gangsta's Paradise
- Coolio
This is one of my all-time favorite rap songs. I loved the movie Dangerous Minds, which had this song on its soundtrack.

When You Say Nothing At All - Alison Krauss
I know this is a remake, but I LOVE this song, and I definitely feel this way about Rick.

Fuel - Ani DiFranco
I just love her politics and edge. It reminds me of the summer that I spent up at Pelican Lake!

One Week - Barenaked Ladies
This is my favorite song by the Barenaked Ladies, and the boys and I went and saw them in concert at the Gorge! It rocked!!

Walk this Way - Run DMC and Aerosmith
I love this old school rap, and I remember when this song came out; it was such a cross-over between rock and rap!!

Proud to be an American - Lee Greenwood
This song is obvious, as my son is a Marine, and I am one proud MAMA! I have always loved this song way before my son was even considering joining up.

Still the One
- Shaina Twain
Rick and I consider this our song, and it fits us perfectly, especially if you know us :)

Only Time - Enya
This song has the perfect sound and the perfect words.

Be Happy - Lighthouse Family
I love this band, and it makes me think of my trip to London!

Rock and Roll All Nite - Kiss
I saw these guys in concert at the Gorge, and I did NOT expect them to rock my socks off, but they did!!!

Let it Be - Beatles
I am a huge fan of the Beatles, and I have loved them since I was little! This song is my most favorite for what it says. AND, when I hear the Beatles, I think of the time I actually walked on Abbey Road in London!

Our song!

We love this Shania Twain song...it fits us perfectly :) I love Ricky Roo, that I do!

(When I first saw you, I saw love.
And the first time you touched me, I felt love.
And after all this time, you're still the one I love.)

Looks like we made it
Look how far we've come my baby
We mighta took the long way
We knew we'd get there someday

Bridge:
They said, "I bet they'll never make it"
But just look at us holding on
We're still together still going strong

Chorus:
(You're still the one)
You're still the one I run to
The one that I belong to
You're the one I want for life
(You're still the one)
You're still the one that I love
The only one I dream of
You're still the one I kiss good night

Ain't nothin' better
We beat the odds together
I'm glad we didn't listen
Look at what we would be missin'

(
I'm so glad we made it
Look how far we've come my baby

An ode to Hoop Fest

Spokane,
sizzling hot,
asphalt melting,
basketballs bouncing
everywhere,
funky team uniforms:
how 'bout
the guys dressed
in ski gear
breakdancing
on the court
in 103
degree
weather,
sunscreen, water bottles,
foot-high snowcones,
music blaring,
kids dancing,
playing in the fountain
drenched and warming
on the hot cement.
running into friends
who are your neighbors
back home.
watching people
people watching,
an afternoon at Riverfront Park.

Just because I wander doesn't mean I don't have roots

I find different places that become like people in my heart,
that draw me to them and live in my thoughts.
A setting that is more like a character in my life's book;
it's alive and beautiful and full of promise.
Even the wheres that I have yet to see in person
welcome me and make me miss them when I leave.
I need to ramble around this huge world,
in serendipity with my gypsy heart.

A poem for a parade!

Summer Fun!
Patriotic flags waving,
Boy Scouts presenting colors,
OHS cheerleaders with sparkly poms.
Fire trucks and sirens,
Sheriff Rogers and the crew,
Rawson's driving red shoe
giving kisses to everyone!
Ladies in purple and red,
politicians baby kissing along the way,
curly haired, pretty princesses
riding rose-covered horses,
followed by the cutest pooper scoopers ever.
Big toys: motorcycles, dump trucks and tractors!
Commandos football and bus: Big Boys!
Dogs and bikes, wagons and kids,
convertibles, perfect princess waves,
Mariachi dancers, kids in pools,
candy, sunglasses, palm trees,
Okanogan Days

Need SLEEP!

Insomnia
It always seems to happens
at this time of the year
when my life is about to change
when I won’t have to get up with an alarm
when I won’t have to go to bed before Letterman
I find myself,
in spite of myself,
not tired and too tired
simultaneously
I want to sleep but I want to be awake
I don’t want to miss a thing,
so for about two weeks
I will be all messed up
and then I will find
the right rhythm
until I have to change it again
back to the way it was

Insomnia II

Do you ever have a mind that just won’t sleep?
Where you think about everything and anything
even if you want to think about nothing?
and your mind chases a bunch of what ifs
into some unknown and endless hole
of thoughts gone awry,
and before you know it
your brain just feeds on itself
and the clock glares 3:34 a.m.
and even though your eyes are dry
and you close them, you can’t shut your mind
so you pretend to be asleep and maybe just dreaming
when really it’s your mind playing out at recess
way past the bell to summon you in and quiet?

Am I allergic to you?

a sniffle
followed by fifteen sneezes
left with tickles
of maybe more,
a scratchy throat
itching for a hard
granola bar to scrape
down the inside,
a head floating
in a fish bowl,
plugged up
not able to hear.

Haiku about a rainy Sunday

pretty pink raincoat
matching pink hello kitty
galoshes, puddles

I remember when I was a little girl, and I had a pink raincoat and pink Hello Kitty galoshes. I was really lucky because my mom always sent us out to have fun in the rain, rather than keep us in. I discovered so many interesting things in the rain. I have always had a fasincation with puddles, and that's probably why. Go out in the rain. Look at life through rain-spotted glasses, and see what you see.

i love the rain

i love its smell
and its pitter patter
on our metal roof
while i sit here
drinking my coffee
with the front door open
and the windows up.
i remember as a little girl
when Mom would tell me
it was God crying
because he was sad
that we couldn't all
be together yet.
and the thunder was my grandfather,
my mom's dad,
who i never met,
bowling strikes in heaven,
and the lightning
my mom's mom,
who i never met,
taking pictures
because heaven is beautiful,
and that the rainbow
aftewards was His smile
telling me that someday
i would meet my granparents
who died when my mom
was a little girl,
just like me.
